There is a learning process to appreciating and consuming alcohol. With alcoholic beverages, there are the immediate experiences of taste, aroma, and appearance, and there are subsequent effects. In the case of over-consumption or irresponsible consumption of alcohol, the dangers are more immediate, and they can have tragic consequences both individually and for the community at large.
Unlike the European culture where wine and beer are part of the education at the family table, Americans, for the most part, often don’t teach their growing children about the effects of alcohol consumption. It's frequently a process of trial and error, in a circumstance where the error can be devastating.
We want our products to be consumed and appreciated for the immediate taste experience, for the wonderful flavors and complexity, and we urge our drinkers to savor our beers and to be moderate in their consumption. We applaud the many honorable organizations and programs that educate people about alcohol consumption, and we support their mission to inspire responsible attitudes and behavior about drinking.
We urge you to check out some of these sites.
In addition, as stated on Samuel Adams® beer packaging, there is a government warning concerning the health effects of consuming alcoholic beverages:
Government warning: (1) According to the Surgeon General, women should not drink alcoholic beverages during pregnancy because of the risk of birth defects. (2) Consumption of alcoholic beverages impairs your ability to drive a car or operate machinery, and may cause health problems.
